The short answer is that there are many different digital advertising types available. Like a cornucopia, the types of digital ads are all different but, fit nicely together. In this blog post we’ll cover (at a high level) the main types. But, let’s start off with an assumption: when we are discussing digital advertising we are talking about paid advertising. That is, online advertising that you pay for in exchange for:
- brand/company exposure
- a click or, other action by a prospective customer.
These ads are most often shown on an online media publication, or search engine website.
Digital advertising can be divided into three broad categories:
- Display ads – so named because they display an image and/or text.
- Media ads – media ads are video and/or audio files served to a site visitor.
- Text ads – these digital ads are comprised of textual information.
Within these ad categories are several ad types as shown in the chart below.
